Details of the Initiative

The purpose of the Graduate School of Governance Studies, Public Policy School, is to develop professionals with advanced expertise and policy-making skills, regional coordination and problem-solving skills, and an international perspective for those involved in politics and administration, citizens who are leaders of civil society, business people, employees of nonprofit organizations, and people who are aiming for careers in the field of public policy.

SDGs are implemented jointly by all stakeholders and are closely related to the formulation, implementation, and evaluation of public policies. For this reason, our Graduate School has been offering a course on SDGs and Governance since FY2019. In omnibus classes, students learn about the SDGs from various perspectives, in each field or across fields, and develop a foundation for considering and acting on the overall picture and how each individual can be involved.

The lecturers include Professor Yuriko Minamoto, Professor Shunsuke Kimura, and Professor Masami Tsuji, as well as people from the national and local government, private company, international aid organization, economic organization, and research institution. Face-to-face classes were limited in FY2020 due to the impact of COVID-19, but active questions were asked by students in online classes. At the end of the term, each student gave a presentation and held a discussion to share their unique approaches.
