Details of the Initiative

Under the leadership of graduate students (Graduate School of Humanities), the KAMASAKI Laboratory hosts symposiums focused on international cooperation and peace. The February 2023 symposium, “Sport, Language and Politics in German Civil Society,” welcomed German researchers to explore the connections between sport and local communities in Germany. The March 2025 symposium, “International Politics and the Media,” invited professors from Qatar University to discuss how media coverage of the FIFA World Cup influences international politics.

Building on these academic outcomes, undergraduate students in the School of Law have been working on sports-based community exchange activities. With reference to German’s use of sports for regional development and health promotion, a range of events have been organized at the Izumi Campus sport ground to encourage student-community engagement. Activities include futsal tournaments with the Global Village international students, soccer classes for local elementary school students, volunteer support at sports events hosted by Suginami City, exchanges with women’s soccer clubs in Setagaya City, and walking soccer matches for senior citizens.
